SWAN-JRC Tsunami Model

List of calculations performed for the Samoa event of 29/9/2009

With increasingly more detailed earthquake fault information, tsunami wave propagation models yield more accurate results. The SWAN-JRC tsunami model, which is also used for the real-time tsunami alerts, was run several times with the most detailed earthquake information available (on 1 October 2009).

Results (with the most detailed resolution of 0.5 minutes) show maximum tsunami wave heights of 7m (in Alaufau, American Samoa).
